Multi-million Rand Expansion for Syntech
Leading IT distributor Syntech is to embark on a multi-million Rand expansion, following the injection of capital from its newly-appointed managing director, Craig Nowitz, formerly the CEO of Pinnacle Micro – one of SA’s top three IT distributors.
Syntech, established in 2002, offers a wide range of product lines and has become recognised for its focus on professional storage and memory with high performance products such as Patriot, ATTO, OCZ, Sonnet, G-Technology and Rocstor. These products are specifically imported to service media rich environments including clients within the film and production, photography and architectural industries.
“We are expecting to grow our revenue by 50% for the year ended February 2012 and are in the process of embarking on an expansion programme that will see us expand and diversify our product range and market focus, as well as moving into larger premises during the first quarter of 2012.”
“Part of our expansion plan will see an increase in our product offering with the addition of high quality components, LED Lighting, networking and security products.”

Nowitz said the capital injection will ensure that the company meets its growth targets for the year ended February 2012, “but will arguably enable us to propel our revenue increase past the 50% mark for the year ended February 2013- and beyond.”
He said while the company focuses on niche markets and has a national presence of active resellers, part of its expansion plans will see the company growing its penetration into additional markets.
“Our overall expansion plans, ” said Nowitz, “will stay in line with Syntech’s stated objective – and commitment – to supply the best products and to provide solutions. We offer the additional support and expertise that is sometimes lacking in the traditional distribution model.
Our intention is to focus on being able to offer clientele more than a ‘box dropping mentality’. We are a solutions driven IT distributor, with the ability to provide high-end solutions to clients, in niche markets – as well as in broader-focused markets. This will remain part of our corporate identity.”
Nowitz has 20 years of extensive experience in the IT industry. Besides his tenure at Pinnacle Micro, he was the founder of PCE Electronics in the 1990s, which was later sold to Softline and ultimately to former distribution behemoth, Siltek, in 2001.
Syntech will remain focused on one of its key niche markets – the film industry – where it provides top-end storage solutions. The company has seen its solutions successfully adopted in several projects, including the blockbuster local film, District 9.
