AMD Radeon RX 7800 XT and RX 7700 XT: A closer look at the free games with these killer GPUs
AMD is giving away even more games with select GPUs
Free games with a new graphics card is not only a time-honoured tradition in the PC world, but also a practical way to give gamers old and new a piece of software to test their newly installed hardware. Every GPU is some gamer’s first step into the wide world of PC gaming and, for those who already have huge game libraries, it is still a massive value add given the high price of games the world over, especially in South Africa.
AMD continues this tradition with the AMD Radeon RX 7800 XT and AMD Radeon RX 7700 XT. Buyers get to choose two free games out of an offering of four, but what are these games and which ones are for you?
Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora
Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora – Launch Accolades Trailer
In the universe of Avatar you need to join a shady corporation and psychically link to an alien body to experience what it’s like to live, fight and exist on Pandora. In our real world. All you need is a copy of Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora.
This first-person title takes us back to Pandora to save it once again from the machinations of the company RDA. Take on the campaign on your own or in full co-op as you grow your alien Na’vi body and free the world from invaders.
When it first released, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora was widely praised for its stunning graphics that rivalled what we saw on the big screen in both movies. Our favourite part of the game, however, is the choice to use both traditional Na’vi weapons such as bows and melee weapons, but you can also make use of sci-fi guns taken by the RDA. We love some good bow gameplay but sometimes you just need to shoot a gun in your first-person game, you know?
Now is also the perfect time to jump into the Frontier of Pandora as publisher Ubisoft has announced The Sky Breaker Story Pack. This addition to the game – the first story pack of its kind – continues the main campaign in a new area. There are new enemies to fight, time challenges to complete, additional ways to upgrade your character and more.
Company of Heroes 3
Company of Heroes 3 // Launch Trailer
Those who prefer strategy should consider picking up Company of Heroes 3 as one of their two free games. Continuing the legacy of the Company of Heroes franchise, this entry aims to be the pinnacle of real-time battling.
Parts of Company of Heroes 3 take place in North Africa which, while far away from South Africa, is at least on the same continent. We love seeing any game even relatively close to home, especially when you can get that game for free. For those who maybe aren’t fully into their strategy titles, the offer from AMD is a great way to explore new genres of game.
Company of Heroes 3 is also still receiving updates and fixes with the latest one – Update 1.7.0 – planned for release soon.
Lies of P
Lies of P – Official Launch Trailer
To us, Lies of P is the perfect game to be included with the AMD Radeon game offer program. This is because we’ve been meaning to pick it up, but we’re still a bit intimidated by its difficulty so we haven’t spent the money just yet.
For those who may have missed it: Lies of P is a third person action game heavily inspired by the Souls tiles that FromSoftware made so famous. Lies of P takes this mechanical framework and sets it against a background of the Belle Epoque era (think steampunk Europe) all while adapting the story of Pinocchio. Yes, you read that right – the “P” in Lies of P stands for Pinocchio.
This is an insane combination of ideas and mechanics that could only be pulled off in gaming, and it’s yours to experience for free, if you have the mettle to take it on.
Starfield
Starfield Official Gameplay Trailer
Those who maybe read Starfield reviews at launch and found it sounding less than stellar should consider giving it another chance now. Not only has Bethesda been updating it this whole time, but the community has also been hard at work at countless mods to fix, change or otherwise mess with every part of the game.
And, with your new AMD Radeon RX 7800 XT or AMD Radeon RX 7700 XT, you will be able to play Starfield even with dozens of mods piled on top. This pair of GPUs from AMD can handle any game from this list at 4K and max settings, all while making use of AMD’s advanced tech such as the Radiance Display Engine for enhanced colours at up to 8K 165Hz, enhanced A1 encoding for clearer streaming and a suite of AI functionality.
These AMD GPUs even improve your audio thanks to AMD Noise Suppression which doesn’t just help with game coms, but in your important meetings too.
AMD has extended this promotion and added in even more free games in the form of two upcoming and highly anticipated titles: Unknown 9: Awakening and Space Marine 2.
Buy your new GPU now, grab your games from www.amdrewards.com, and get playing. It’s that simple. Not only will you be gaming on the latest AMD hardware, enjoying features like AMD Free Sync, AMD Noise Suppression, AMD HYPR-RX Game Optimization and more, but you will also get to use that horsepower in some of the best games on the market for free.
